"Chef in the House"
continues.
Let me tell you the latest mishap and lesson learned.
D was cooking a pork chop dinner, seared in the skillet,
placed in the oven to finish cooking. I was busy in the other room heard
someone talking talk got louder and finally I heard "Darn It", (you
know is was something else said). I hear water running and talk becoming
louder, now yelling checked on him and he's standing at the sink hand under
running water still yelling. You guessed
it the Chef burnt his hand. D uses a potholder or glove at all times but this moment
he had the skillet resting on the cook top, glove off and reached over to move
it to another burner...hence the yelling and water running.
He was so mad at himself because he always uses gloves and
he was not thinking, result burns over palm and three fingers. He forgot to
leave the glove on the skillet handle, sooooo. Lesson learned; always leave the
potholder, glove or towel on the handle of a hot skillet or pan until it cools.
Just to let everyone know he was very lucky, quick treatment
of cool water and placing on ice pack for several minutes and later applying
aloe lotion frequently saved him from an ER visit. One week later, only dry
skin where the burns appeared.
